The natural world can move us, whether feeling joy for a sunny day or the sense of calm from watching the sea, nature plays an important role in our emotions. Expressing the full range of emotion in and through nature is an important way in which we can reconnect, be the processing of grief through to joy and contentment.
THE IMPORTANCEOF EMOTION
Just like any relationship you have, the way we feel towards others and being able to express the range of emotions we feel is really important and our relationship with nature is no different. Being able to express our love, joy, and contentment or even our grief, anger, or frustration through nature can be a powerful way in which we can reconnect with the wider natural world.
EMOTION ACTIVITIES TO TRY
Notice the good things in nature around you; write down three things in nature you are grateful for each day
Experience joy in watching animals at play
Find a quiet spot in nature and take time away from your phone and other distractions to simply be present and find a sense of calm
Talk to nature about your feelings; nature won't judge you so express yourself to an animal, tree or plant
Go fishing; find a sense of tranquility around a river or lake or a sense of excitement at catching a fish
